America's community-voted BJJ awards

Won on the mats. Decided by you.

The BJJ Awards recognizes the best gyms, programs and coaches in each city, once a year, by public vote. Anyone can nominate. Every vote is email-verified and counted once. Nominations are open now, and the ballot is built from them.

The ballot opens in October, built from these nominations

Nominations run all September, free and open. Anyone in the community writes in their gyms and coach in the six categories below. The five most-nominated in each become the finalists on the October ballot. Owners can’t nominate themselves — that’s the whole point.

Finalists are the five most-nominated in each category. How the count works →

The count

Every vote counted once. Every count public.

An award is worth exactly what its count is worth. So the count is the product, and it works the same in every city.

Every vote counted once

Confirmed by email

You vote. We send a link. You click. That click is what makes your vote count.

One person, one vote

One verified vote per category, per person, per season. Enforced at the database level.

Every count public

Public numbers

Every winner is announced with the final vote count attached, on the site and printed on the plaque.

Open methodology

How votes are verified, checked and counted is published in plain English for anyone to read.

Independent and black belt-run, with no media company behind it. Every category is decided on the ballot, and any offer comes only after the results are public. Who's behind it →

While nominations are open

Your gym only makes the ballot if its people nominate it.

Owners can’t nominate themselves. The people who train there can — and they’re the ones who decide who ends up on the October ballot.

Nominate the gyms you train at

Six categories. Write in any gym or coach. One email link confirms them all.

Tell your teammates

Ballots are built from nominations. If nobody writes your gym in during September, it doesn’t appear in October.

We repost gym communities showing up for their own. The louder a city gets, the sooner the next one opens.
